FAQs

Will insurance cover pelvic floor therapy?

We are out-of-network for most insurance plans but submit claims on your behalf. Coverage varies by plan, but we also accept HSA/FSA payments.

What is done during pelvic floor therapy?

Sessions are typically one hour long and include an evaluation of your concerns, followed by hands-on treatment and personalized exercises to address your specific needs.

When should you start pelvic floor therapy during pregnancy?

Pelvic floor therapy can be started at any point during pregnancy, but many healthcare providers recommend beginning as soon as possible if experiencing symptoms such as urinary leakage, pelvic pain, or pressure.

What does a postpartum physical therapist do?

A postpartum physical therapist specializes in helping individuals recover after childbirth by addressing musculoskeletal issues, pelvic floor dysfunction, and overall body strength.

When to see pelvic floor PT postpartum?

If you have any concerns or symptoms, we recommend calling for a free 15 minute consultation with one of our DPTs. At that time, we may recommend you follow up with your OB/GYN, or suggest our postpartum telehealth service. But typically we wait until patients are cleared by their physicians at 6 weeks.

Can you fix diastasis recti with physical therapy?

Yes, diastasis recti (abdominal separation) can be effectively treated with physical therapy in most cases. A pelvic floor physical therapist can guide you through targeted exercises to strengthen the deep core muscles, restore proper function, and reduce the abdominal gap.

McCaul Butcher
Dr. McCaul Butcher
PT, DPT
Clinical Director, Physical Therapist

Dr. McCaul Butcher received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and quickly realized the deficit in whole-body, complete care of the individual. Nearly a decade of immersion in orthopedics and pelvic health paired with a drive to learn more have led to Dr. McCaul’s expertise and extensive training in orthopedics/sports and pelvic health.. As many do, Dr. McCaul experienced her own orthopedic injury as a PT, which led her down the road to seeking pelvic health rehabilitation, and she knew at once this was an obvious missing connection to care of orthopedic and sports injuries.

Dr. McCaul is an expert in perinatal wellness, understanding the importance of denormalizing abdominal separation, incontinence, symphysis pubis dysfunction, hip pain both during and after pregnancy, as well as best preparing the body for the vast physiological changes, labor, birth and fourth trimester. Across the lifespan, from highschool and female athletes to perimenopause, Dr. McCaul seeks an evidence-based, hands-on approach for care, integrating a variety of masterful techniques for injury rehabilitation and prevention.  Dr. McCaul is also passionate about health promotion and fitness and takes a whole body, movement system approach to care in order to help clients achieve their goals as quickly yet effectively as possible.

When she is not working, Dr. McCaul loves spending time with her family and two young sons. Additionally, she enjoys weightlifting, hiking, and taking trips to the beach with her family.
