Pelvic Floor Therapy
Assessment: A specialized pelvic floor PT evaluates your muscles, tissues, and joints to understand their function. This may involve both external and internal evaluations to assess strength, coordination, endurance, and any areas of tension or pain.
Education: Your therapist explains muscle function, how they may relate to your concerns, and key strategies to work on outside of sessions.
Exercises: Based on your needs, your therapist designs a care plan that includes strengthening exercises or relaxation techniques, plus manual therapy to target specific muscles.
Pelvic floor PT aims to restore full function to pelvic muscles, benefiting bowel, bladder, and sexual health, as well as core stability. Key benefits include:
- Enhanced muscle strength and coordination
- Pain relief

Effectiveness
of Physiotherapy
Yes, physiotherapy is an evidence-based treatment that improves mobility, reduces pain, enhances strength, and restores function. Supported by extensive research, it’s often a first-line approach for both acute and chronic conditions.
Success depends on individual conditions and goals. Our highly trained therapists work closely with each patient, using a collaborative approach for the best outcomes.
These terms are often interchangeable. “Physiotherapy” reflects our holistic, full-body care approach, while “physical therapy” is commonly used in the U.S.
Both have distinct roles: physiotherapy focuses on comprehensive rehabilitation, while massage mainly targets muscle relaxation and pain relief. Often, they’re complementary for holistic care.

Virtual
Pelvic Floor Therapy
Yes, you can do pelvic floor therapy exercises at home, especially if they are prescribed by a pelvic floor therapist. Many exercises can be done without a lot of extra equipment. However, it is usually recommended to consult with a physical therapist first to ensure proper technique and provide a more specific, targeted plan based on your specific needs.
While there are many components of pelvic floor therapy to be done independently and at home, it is usually recommended to get a targeted, specific plan by working with one of our expertly trained physical therapists to ensure you are working on the specific areas for your case. Each individual is so unique, and it is so important to get a care plan tailored to fit the specific needs of each individual and the condition to be addressed.
Yes, virtual care is available throughout Maryland and Virginia to accommodate those who may not be near a physical location. Some adjustments are made for virtual care, but we strive to make it accessible and effective.
